Hello! Let’s talk about abdominoplasty, a procedure that can transform the appearance of your abdomen.

If you’re bothered by excess skin, sagging, or weakened abdominal muscles, abdominoplasty may be the solution you’re looking for.

In this article, I will explain all the important details about this procedure so that you can make informed decisions.

What is abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck surgery, is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the appearance of your abdomen. During the surgery, we remove excess skin and fat and strengthen the abdominal muscles. The result is a firmer and more toned abdomen.

Abdominoplasty is recommended for individuals who have excess abdominal skin, often after pregnancy or significant weight loss. After pregnancy, abdominal muscles can separate to accommodate the baby, and it’s common for them to remain flabby after pregnancy, with a gap in the middle, called diastasis. Diastasis creates that round belly when we release the muscles. In abdominoplasty, it’s possible to remove the loose and excess skin, reposition these muscles, and strengthen the abdominal wall.

What’s the ideal age?

There isn’t a “right” age for abdominoplasty because every person is unique. The most important thing is that you’re in good health and your weight is stable. I generally recommend that patients wait until after they’ve completed their pregnancy plans because a future pregnancy can affect the results.

How is the surgery performed?

During the surgery, we carefully remove excess skin and fat and restore weakened abdominal muscles. The surgical technique can vary from patient to patient, and we can discuss the best option for you during the consultation. Often, liposuction of abdominal areas is associated for better contouring.

What type of anaesthesia is used?

Abdominoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia to ensure your comfort and safety throughout the entire procedure.

How long does the surgery take?

The duration of the surgery varies, but on average, it takes 2 to 4 hours to complete, depending on what needs to be done to achieve the desired results.

Is hospitalization required?

After the surgery, you’ll be hospitalized for a short period. In general, patients are discharged on the same day after a full recovery, or the day after.

Where is the surgery performed?

Abdominoplasty should be performed in a suitable surgical environment. The surgery is conducted in hospitals in Greater London, properly equipped, with high standards of sterilization and safety.

What’s the recovery time?

Recovery can vary, but on average, most patients can resume their daily activities in about 2 to 4 weeks. However, more intense activities should be avoided for a longer period.

What are the post-surgery care instructions?

After the surgery, it is essential to follow our instructions carefully. This includes using compression garments, avoiding strenuous physical efforts, and keeping the surgical area clean and well cared for to ensure a smooth recovery and satisfactory results.

What are the initial steps for those considering the surgery?

The first step is to schedule a consultation with me. During this consultation, I will assess you thoroughly to determine if abdominoplasty is suitable for your specific case. I will explain the potential outcomes and all the details regarding your case.

What tests are required for the surgery?

According to the recommendations of the UK Medical Council, healthy patients (without any illnesses) under 50 years old do not require pre-operative tests. However, each case is individual, and depending on the circumstances, some blood tests or an electrocardiogram may be necessary. In females of childbearing age, a pregnancy test is required.

How much does abdominoplasty cost?

Costs can vary considerably and depend on various factors. The price is influenced by the surgery time, and the time can vary depending on the complexity of each case. It also takes into account the duration of hospitalization, whether some high-tech equipment will be used, and the type of anesthesia.

Generally, costs involve the hospital fee, the anesthetist’s fees, the surgeon’s fees, and the nursing team’s fees. On average, prices start from £8,000. During the consultation, I will discuss specific details with you and provide a personalized quote based on your needs.

If you are considering this surgery and want to obtain more personalized information, a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs, and a specific quote, I am available to schedule a consultation. Remember that each patient is unique, and during our consultation, we will discuss your specific needs and expectations to ensure a safe and personalized abdominoplasty.

I am here to help you through this process as comfortably and safely as possible.
