Hello! Let’s discuss blepharoplasty, a procedure that can transform the appearance of your eyelids.

If you’re concerned about excess skin, sagging, or fat deposits around your eyes, blepharoplasty may be the solution you’re seeking.

In this article, I will provide all the essential information about this procedure to help you make well-informed decisions.

What is blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, commonly referred to as eyelid surgery, is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the appearance of your eyelids. During this procedure, excess skin and fat are removed, and the muscles around the eyes are adjusted. The outcome is a more rejuvenated and refreshed look.

Blepharoplasty is recommended for individuals with excess skin in the upper eyelid, and and fat deposits around the eyes, typically in the under-eye area. It also can address drooping upper eyelids. It is suitable for those who wish to improve the appearance of their eyes and achieve a more youthful look.

What’s the ideal age?

There is no specific ideal age for blepharoplasty. The most crucial factor is your overall health. This procedure can be performed on individuals experiencing signs of aging around the eyes, typically in their 40s or older.

How is the surgery performed?

During the surgery, excess skin and fat are meticulously removed, and the muscles and tissues surrounding the eyes are skilfully adjusted to achieve a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. The surgical technique may vary based on individual requirements.

Typically, for the upper eyelid, the incision is positioned along the eyelid’s natural fold. In the case of the lower eyelid, the incision can be made on the inner portion (conjunctiva) or just below the eyelashes. These incisions will eventually form scars, which tend to be very discreet and typically blend well with the natural contours of the eyes.

What type of anaesthesia is used?

Blepharoplasty is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia to ensure your comfort and safety during the procedure. In specific cases, it can also be performed under local anesthesia alone.

How long does the surgery take?

The duration of blepharoplasty can vary, but on average, the procedure takes about 1 hour, depending on the extent of the work required.

Is hospitalization required?

Most blepharoplasty procedures are performed as outpatient surgeries, meaning you can return home on the same day.

Where is the surgery performed?

Blepharoplasty should be performed in a suitable surgical environment. The surgery is conducted in hospitals in Greater London, which are well-equipped and adhere to high standards of sterilization and safety.

What’s the recovery time?

Recovery time can vary, but in general, most patients can resume their daily activities within a week to ten days. Swelling and bruising may be present initially but typically subside within a few weeks.

What are the post-surgery care instructions?

After blepharoplasty, it is crucial to follow post-operative instructions diligently. This involves using cold compresses to reduce swelling, applying ointments and eye drops, maintaining cleanliness in the surgical area, and refraining from strenuous activities during the initial phase of recovery.

What are the initial steps for those considering the surgery?

The first step is to schedule a consultation with me. During this consultation, I will evaluate your specific needs and discuss whether blepharoplasty is suitable for your case. I will explain the potential outcomes and provide you with all the relevant details.

What tests are required for the surgery?

In line with recommendations from the UK Medical Council, healthy patients without any significant medical conditions do not usually require pre-operative tests for blepharoplasty. However, individual cases may vary, and additional tests may be necessary, depending on your specific health profile.

How much does blepharoplasty cost?

The cost of blepharoplasty can vary based on different factors. The price may be influenced by the complexity of the procedure, anesthesia type, and other considerations. Typically, the costs involve the hospital fee, anesthetist’s fees, surgeon’s fees, and the nursing team’s fees. On average, prices for blepharoplasty can range from £3,00 to £7,000. During the consultation, I will provide you with a personalized quote based on your unique requirements.

If you are considering this surgery and would like to receive more personalized information, a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs, and a specific quote, I am available to schedule a consultation. Remember that each patient is unique, and during our consultation, we will discuss your specific needs and expectations to ensure a safe and personalized blepharoplasty.
